bava metzia 31

it's been a while since I have posted on this blog. no reason not to, other than I wasn't able to for a few weeks, and then got out of the habit.... but the daf yomi drawings are continuing. and I post them on Instagram. Sometimes... but I wanted to post today's daf on here, as I had more to say about it.

as Calais burns, the daf emphatically tells us, in compound verbs, to care for the suffering of those who have lost that was valuable to them. To care for all the poor, not just those in your own city. To give charity, both large and small gifts, without upset or hatred in one's heart.

And to continue to rebuke those who are not doing the right thing. Even if they are your leaders and teachers, even if it's the 100th time, you still have to keep speaking up.

I feel a huge sense of inadequacy when seeing the stories about the refugee crisis, and this daf addresses some of these questions: what can I really do to help? what can be done... petitions to politicians seem to fall on deaf ears - write anyway. What difference can be made, it's a drop in the ocean of what is needed - give anyway. There are those close to us who are suffering and also in need - give to those far and near....
