eruvin 25

when a partition doesn't count

making a gesture to acquire ownerless land by ploughing into it is better than just putting up a partition.

  1. I'm studying up on stories of women in the Talmud and was agitated by Eruvin 25a (and Bava Batra 54a) putting the guy who did "a little plowing" over the woman who has already built on what was already established (rather than waste it)... It's nice to know this story also caught your eye. What do the three discs soaring over the wall mean for you?
How do you work through the apparent misogyny here? It's impossible to know if he was plowing for the benefit of the land or just to take it from her...
